The wood stabilization technique taught in this class uses a heat cured resin and can be applied to all types of wood, including punky, spalted or soft woods. The process of stabilization strengthens the wood and prevents the wood from moving with changes in the humidity. Stabilized wood can be used for knife handles, Fly rod handles, turned pens, handgun stocks or scales, jewelry, and other wood projects that require strong tough wood.
This class will take you through the entire process of wood stabilization from drying the wood to creating the vacuum, absorbing the resin, preparing for the heat treatment, baking the resin infused wood, and finishing the stabilized wood.
Students will be able to take with them a sample of stabilized wood when the class is over.
Students should wear work clothing.
