Wood Carving Basics

  • Blue Heron Woodworking (map)

Woodcarving is a fun and rewarding hobby.  However, it can be a little confusing to get started.  This 3 hour clinic will explore the many facets of carving: traditional mallet carving and chip carving.  You will learn which woods are best for carving, tool sharpening, and basic layout techniques.  You will have an opportunity to explore the different techniques on simple projects.  Wood and tools will be provided and you are welcome to bring your own.  Please bring safety glasses if you have them.

Students are encouraged to bring their own tools for use and/or sharpening.

Students should bring work clothing with NO long sleeves or dangling drawstrings.  Long hair MUST be tied back or held in a cap.  No loose jewelry.
