This introduction to carving wooden spoons will spend time discussing the different tools used, basics on tool sharpening, and safe tool handling. We will cover different methods of making blanks including splitting wood to be rough cut with a hatchet and using a band saw to cut the rough shape. We will cover a number of common knife holds and cutting techniques. We will also touch briefly on design elements and possible decoration methods.
Students are encouraged to bring their own tools for use and/or sharpening.
